The 2017-2018 Student Engineer Issue was launched on the 2nd of May 2017 by the ESA Editorial Board. The magazine which featured the crème de la crème of articles sampled from an article writing competition themed The Future of Transport and Communication. The event which coincided with a Kengen talk was also an award ceremony to the best articles in the competition. Certificates were awarded to all who participated in the article writing competition and the best 4 articles were awarded as follows.

The ESA Editorial board is planning on a second issue and is therefore calling for articles through another article writing competition. This second issue will be themed Structural Integrity and Cities for our Future. It is estimated that by 2050 the world’s population will be at 9.8billon people. Taking into consideration our present infrastructure and cities, will Kenya be able to cater all its citizens? At the same time as a country we are facing lots of problems in terms of our structures (buildings, bridges) , rapid urbanization in our cities, climate change and resource scarcity. The articles we are calling for are transformative and innovative solutions to these threats to our living. Be its solution to frequent collapse of buildings, frequent floods in our cities, traffic jams, carbon emissions, inadequate rainfall leading to drought, basically any problem you might think of. Parting shot, engineering solutions to our everyday problems. The awards to this competition are as follows;
